"Picturing Quakers"

"Picturing Quakers" ran from from 4th to 12th October 2025 at Wandsworth Quaker Meeting House. More than two dozen Quakers from across London contributed a wide variety of artworks illustrating aspects of their Quaker experience,  through paintings, prints and textile artworks to video work, ceramics and 3-D installations. Themes ranged from experiences of the silent communion of Quaker worship to witnessing concerns about peace, the environment and social justice. 

Participating artists included: Alison Wallace, Amanda Wunderlich, Ann Ulrick, Anne McNeill Pulati, Annette Gambin, Art the Arms Fair, Bernadette O’Shea, Catherine Wheare, Debbie Flatt, Emma Charleston, Geoff Smith, Jacqueline Merry Bernard, James Pendle, Kate Bone, Linda Murgatroyd, Loving Earth Project, Margot Schiemann, Max Harlie, Michael Mears, Nikolai Smith, Peter Horsfield, Sonja Cooper, Susan Walker, Tony Gant, Val Coumont, Wandsworth Quaker Children, Yvonne P Stewart-Williams. 

Special events included:

  • a half-hour Quaker Meeting for worship amid the exhibits on International Quaker Day;
  • an opportunity to Meet the Artists in an evening event
  • a poetry recital from James Pendle ("the Poet of Paddington Station”) 

The exhibition was run as part of Wandsworth Artists Open House, celebrating Wandsworth as London Borough of Culture 2025.
